Moving Help Hourly Cost in North Carolina: What You'll Pay in 2026
Local moving assistance pricing in the Raleigh Triangle — hourly rates, crew sizes, and how to keep the move under budget.
You don't always need a full-service mover. Sometimes what you need is two strong people, a hand truck, and a couple of hours to load a rented truck. Here's what moving help (labor-only) actually costs in the Raleigh Triangle in 2026.
Triangle moving labor rates
| Crew Size | Hourly Rate | Typical Use Case |
|---|---|---|
| 2 movers | $110 – $150 / hr | Studio, 1-BR, or partial-move help |
| 3 movers | $155 – $205 / hr | 2–3 BR home |
| 4 movers | $200 – $265 / hr | 4+ BR home or heavy furniture |
What labor-only movers typically do
- Load a rented truck (U-Haul, Penske, Budget)
- Unload at destination and place in correct rooms
- Disassemble and reassemble basic furniture
- Wrap and pad-protect large items
- Carry heavy or awkward items (appliances, safes, gun safes, pianos with disclosure)
Common surcharges to expect
- 3-hour minimum for most Triangle crews
- Stairs beyond one flight — $20–$50 per flight
- Long carry from truck to door — $50+
- Piano or safe move — flat fee $150+
- Fuel or travel time outside a 20-mile radius
How to prepare for the crew
- Have every box taped and clearly labeled by room
- Empty every drawer and dresser
- Stage lamps, mirrors, and fragile items separately
- Reserve a parking spot for the truck at both ends
- Have cash or Venmo ready for tipping (industry standard: 15–20%)
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to provide the truck?
+
For labor-only pricing, yes — you rent the truck (U-Haul, Penske, Budget) and our crew loads and unloads it. Full-service moves that include the truck are quoted separately.
How much do movers typically get tipped in the Triangle?
+
Industry standard is 15–20% of the labor total, or $20–$40 per mover for a half day and $40–$80 per mover for a full day.
Can you help with just the heavy items?
+
Yes — some Triangle homeowners book us just for appliances, pianos, or safes and handle the rest themselves. Minimum 3-hour booking still applies.
